Appalachian Trail
After making our way around a corn field, and crossing a road the trail began an upwards climb towards Belter's Bump.
By this point in our hike we were glad to be having a break from the rain. It had rained, albeit not heavily, on us for a couple of hours, making for a very chilly lunch stop in a dry spot underneath a large tree. We would be glad for the rest of the day as well, because that that was all the rain we would get.
A hot meal after a chilly, rainy, day of hiking is very welcome, and an excellent way to warm up and find the energy to set up camp.
Luckily it wasn't a trip-ending injury.
And then I waited for Sidetrack to emerge from Roger's Ramp so I could snap the next picture. :)
The privy at our second camping area elicited some giggles from us. This was the first time we camped anywhere with an open privy like this.
You may be wondering if we used this privy?
Days like this were meant for hiking. They are not, however, meant for enjoying sweeping vista's from high up on the mountain.
I'm not entirely sure what made the scrape on this tree. They were on a number of tree's in this area, and were at various heights. I was unable to match it to tree-scrape pictures on the Internet, so it remains a mystery.
It was kind of a shame that we hadn't made it to Silver Hill the night before. It is one of the nicest camping area's on the trail. It even has a sink that can be used to wash dishes. There was a lean to here at one time, but it burned down.
We were really glad to be here. Why?
