We decided to go for a short evening hike here, the weather was just too fabulous to not be outside and we hadn't gotten to hike the previous weekend, so we were pretty much dying to get out. The parking on Bread and Milk Road is large enough to fit a good number of cars. There were a few when we arrived, but just our little blue car remained when we finished our walk. Since there is a pavilion with picnic tables, we decided to grab dinner at Subway and eat in the pavilion before setting out on our walk. As we ate our dinner we were constantly entertained by the various birds that call the lovely wildflower fields here, home. We mostly saw Sparrows, Robins, and Finches, but we heard some Rose-Breasted Grosbeak and Cedar Waxwing's as well. |
A little ways past the pavilion there is a path to the left, don't take that one unless you just want to sit by a stream. Instead, keep going straight, you'll come to a small footbridge, then you'll cross Bolton Rd and enter a pine forest.
There are a number of un-blazed trails running here and there through the forest, so watch your blazes or you might get off-track. The trail is wide, well-packed, and the terrain is easy. This would be a good place to take kids for a hike.
On a Tuesday evening the place was pretty quiet. There were a few people leaving when we arrived, then we didn't see anyone again until towards the end of our hike. I think we saw a total of 9 people.
Very nice and peaceful.
